My eyes darted expectantly from one group to the other as I waited for them to do something other than engage. There was a palpable tension in the air that I sensed all the way from the trees. When the two groups were only fifty feet apart they halted. The rustling leaves and whistling wind the only sound. One of the rose plants and one of the flytrap plants stepped forward. The rose lifted its hand to a near invisible mouth and blew. The shrill whistle I had heard when the sun returned blared and the plants descended into organized chaos.
